Children who are finding things hard at school or home need to know that there are strategies out there that can help. Allow them to choose ones that work for them.
Here’s the A to Z of coping strategies for children.
Copy and paste it into a word document and allow your class to illustrate it or create a poster.
A – ask for help
B – breathe deeply and slowly
C – count to ten
D – drink some cold water
E – exercise (10 star jumps will do)
F – find a safe place
G – go to your happy place (meditate)
H – hug a friend or family member
I – ignore things that annoy you
J – jokes can make you laugh
k – be kind to someone else
L – listen to calming music
M – mindfulness (think about it)
N – name the emotion you are feeling
O – observe yourself
P – paint your feelings
Q – question your thoughts
R – read a poem
S – separates yourself from the problem
T – think positive thoughts
U – use your words to explain
V – voice your emotions and feelings
W – write a diary
X – exhale and inhale slowly
Y – yoga. Make a yoga pose
Z – zone out and relax your mind
These can really help children when dealing with tricky situations.
