Should Our Children Be Silent in Class? NO!

When 60 trainee teachers cram into a tiny room in the back streets of Tiger Market in Kathmandu just to understand more about how the Montessori Method To teaching can change their classrooms…….

“You know that change is in the horizon.”

Montessori developed her system based on following the direction of the child, learning from our mistakes and each other.

Today we introduced some of her pedagogy to a group of very eager women. All of them wanting to return to their schools with new ways of improving the future for the children in their care.

The Montessori method in its true form requires years of training, expensive equipment and materials, but my rationale is that 1% of this great pedagogy is better than nothing.

Today we understood the power of conversation between students, interactions and conversations whilst the children learn can be great moments of comfort, cooperation, communication and confidence.

A classroom should have a nice cacophony of noise, a gentle hum of excitement and interest.

A silent classroom is one of absolute failure. If you’re keeping your class quiet because you think that controlling them helps them learn, then it’s time to think again.
