Our current educational outcomes are designed not for the future, but for an Industrial Age that’s over 150 years old. Designed for a lifestyle and workforce long gone.
Teaching for the sake of learning and remembering facts’ We must ask ourselves, “Why am I teaching this?”
We have a duty of care to our students and those who will follow them, to teach our children how to live in a way that protects all living beings and the natural habitat we call Home.
The essential skills that should be included in every teaching program, every lesson plan and every assessment task are those that will make the world a better place to live.
Make these skills the “learning objective” of your lessons and cultivate students who will emerge as changemakers, young adults who will understand that there’s only one race “the human one” and that we only have one planet, if we take care of it, it will take care of us.
I urge every educator on earth to print this table, to place it on the desk of their principal, to take it to their next staff meeting and to hang it up the staffroom for everyone to read.
