“The greatest gift you can give your child is Time.” This is the quote I want to be known for.
In the modern world of fancy cars and huge mortgages, many parents work long ours, Spend the time in the car on the way to school on a conference call, work from home, and even get the nanny to put the kids to bed.
These things are like junk food. You should only do them every so often.
In my 20 years of being a teacher I have seen thousands of children. It isn’t ALWAYS The case but in general children who are grounded, self motivated and disciplined all have one thing in common. Their parents spend ‘quality’ time with them.
The ones who crave attention, want to show off to the class or disturb the teaching environment are those who’s parents do not spend enough time with them. So they crave that attention in the classroom and they’re happy to get it any way possible.
When parents sit with me and ask “is there anything that we can do better?’
I always say the same thing “spend more time with your child just chatting about things they like, walking at their pace and looking them in the eye as you tell them you love them. “ ❤️
