8 weeks ago I travelled to Butwal in Southern Nepal. I found an old bank, laid some carpet, got some shelves made, filled them with Montessori materials and trained up 4 women to run the training centre and teach the basics of Montessori.
I put a poster in the street, some pictures on Facebook and then I flew away hoping that this old bank would become the first Montessori Training Centre in the area.
I put my faith in those who had walked the road with me, I handed them the keys and I hoped that the people would come. I hoped that education in the country would change and finally the people would have a chance at equality, freedom and choice.
8 weeks later I receive this picture. 25 graduate teachers leaving the centre with a diverse range of skills, theories and materials that will change their schools and the communities in which they work, forever.
Tonight I will sleep easy knowing that it worked. Those nights sleeping on the floor in 40 degree mosquito ridden rooms had a purpose.
