I wonder if she needs to sit in silence for 45 minutes colouring boxes during a standardised test, so that we can compare her to other children and ultimately her entire school against other schools, to see if she understands place value?
Or should we use tactile, hands-on learning techniques that allow children to feel, touch and understand that mathematics is not a bunch of numbers on a page with a red tick. Mathematics is real and it’s all around us, you can see it, hear it and it effects everything you do.
Let’s allow our children to see the real value of numbers and maybe, just maybe they’ll enjoy it and use it to change the world for the better!
There’s absolutely no need for grades, when you’re using observations like these!!!
