This is my mum. When I was little she used to be so kind to everyone and everything. She taught me the art of finding happiness in being a nice human.
If you want your children to be kind, it’s easy!
Model it!
- If a spider appears in your house, don’t kill it. Catch it gently, tell your children that he probably has a family waiting in a web and put him back outside.
- If somebody is struggling to find their way in the street, ask them if they need directions.
- Compliment people in front of other people! Lift them up and make their day!
- Tell people that you love them! Hug them, kiss them and tell them how much you appreciate them.
- Make time to help your family and friends and involve your children in the task.
- When somebody is talking, especially your child; listen! Listen to hear, not to respond.
- Take care of plants, talk to them. Clean their leaves and stroke them. Let your children see that plants are alive and appreciate care.
- Visit nature regularly and talk about its wonder. Appreciate it, hug a tree, hold a beetle and discuss the amazing way it works.
- Care for yourself. Eat well, sleep early, have dinner together and chat with no telephones. Ask the people around you questions.
- Recycle your waste, donate old clothes, fix broken items. The world needs less stuff!
Modelling kindness to yourself, nature, the people around you and the world as a whole allows your children to see that being kind makes you feel great!
If there’s one thing I learned from the lady in the photo it’s ’if you can be anything, be kind.’
