Let’s Think About Maths Differently.

If you’re finding that your students are uninspired by mathematics, there are numerous ways in which you can teach it without insisting that your class complete laborious algorithms and worksheets.

Take this car part design for instance.

To complete this talk Children will need to use their skills of:

1. Estimation

2. Measurement

3. Addition.

4. Patterns and algebra

5. Length, height, weight.

6. Timing.

7. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

8. Shapes and space.

But whilst doing that, if you require that the children work in teams you will also be able to sit back and observe essential skills like:

1. Collaboration

2. Empathy

3. Resilience

4. Time management.

5. Communication

6. Organisation, to name just a few.

In order to spark excitement in our students we must think outside the box on how we can make subjects more interesting.

I mean which would you rather do;

1. Fill in worksheets in addition

Or,

2. Build a miniature car park out of cardboard and toilet roll tubes?

Share if you agree with me.
